The Wedding Officiant
The wedding officiant you select should be someone that you feel very comfortable with and someone whom you feel confident will perform the kind of wedding ceremony that YOU want.
You need to decide on is what kind of a ceremony you would like. Religious, Civil, Spiritual, Secular, Theme or other alternative.. When you have decided the type of ceremony you want, the next thing to decide is who will perform your ceremony.
If you belong to a particular church and would like for your personal pastor or minister to officiate your wedding ceremony, meet with him or her as soon as you have set your date to make sure they and the church are available to accommodate you.
If you plan to hire a licensed independent wedding officiate, there are many to choose from. Styles vary with each officiate and some are better than others. When selecting an officiate it is important to consider his or her experience, ask for references, and most importantly make sure your personalities match, don't make the choice based simply on price alone. Quite often an officiates fee is in direct relation to their level of experience and reputation.
Your wedding officiate is often one of the most overlooked but most important people you need for your wedding to be successful.
Our experienced staff will help you find the right officiate for you.
When interviewing officiants:
- Make sure you have control over choices for your ceremony.
- Is the officiant licensed according to your state to solemnize marriages?
- policies in case of an emergency, either your part or theirs
- ask about fees, refund policy, travel expenses and/or donations and possible hidden costs.
- The officiant should be someone that you feel very comfortable with.
- Don’t feel pressured into making a final decision early, interview several officiants.
- once you have selected an officiant, book the officiant as early as possible to ensure you have a reservation on the officiates schedule.
Do I tip My Officiant?
While most officiants charge a fee for their services, it is usually always recommended that you tip them for a job well done. You should find a way to discretely tip your officiant, such as including it with the marriage license. $25.00 to $50.00 above the officiants fee is usually the accepted standard.
